Salat al-Tibbiyya , Islamic way to cure depression

This my favourite salawaat when in time of trouble and depression, i read it 15 times after doing 5 time prayers.

The scholars mention that for those sick or troubled (and others) it is good to recite the Salat al-Tibbiyya, along with the sunna ways of sending blessings and peace.

Allahumma Salli `ala Sayyidina Muhammadin
Tibbil qulubi wa dawaa’iha
Wa nuril absari wa diya’iha
Wa `afiyatil abdaani wa shifaa’ha
Wa `ala Aalihi wa Sahbihi wa Sallim.

And upon his family, companions, and send peace.

Habib Umar Bin Hafiz talk about Divine Love

IN THE NAME OF ALLAH, THE MOST GRACIOUS, THE MOST MERCIFUL

Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala Says, 'I have prepared for my righteous servants what no eye has seen, no ear has heard nor has ever...'

The person who receives the gift that come from Divine Love and the love that Allah Ta'ala has for His servants can not really encompass the love that Allah has for him and the gifts that are showered upon him due to this love.

Even in the Garden, when he goes into the place that Allah showers His ennobled servants with His Gifts, in every moment he only knows the gifts he is in at that moment and in the next moment and in the moment after that and the moment after that until eternity.

Even the angels in the Garden do not know how these gifts will be experienced when the garden is open for those who dwell in it. Thus, no creature can actually imagine the gifts or the experiences of those gifts that Allah has prepared for His righteous servants. The Husn of Allah has no end.

Even in the sensory form, the people of the garden will experience beauties and bounties that will be in the increase all the time. If one was to find a fruit that he liked in the garden and he was to pluck this fruit and eat it, Allah Ta'ala will cause another fruit to grow in its place which will be more beautiful than the first one and even if he was to pluck that fruit, there will be one more beautiful than that.

If he was to see a beautiful bird flying in the Garden and he was to want this bird to come on his plate in order for him to eat it roasted, the bird will come down to him roasted. When he tastes this bird, it will be a taste he has never experienced in this world. Once he has finished, the bird will be resurrected again and will fly in the garden again in a more beautiful form. All of this beauty is a reflection of the Prophetic Beauty (Salallahu alayhi wasalam). This is because the Prophet (peace be upon him) is the most perfect reflection in creation, the perfect mirror of the Divine Beauty and the Divine Perfection.

If a man in Jannah was to taste the sweetness of a fruit or a bird that he eats in the Garden, he will experience one thousand sweet tastes in his mouth whilst no taste will conflict with another. Every taste will stay in his memory and he will be able to taste it for 70 years and yet the next mouthful will be even better than that. If this person was to walk out into the market places of paradise and then come back home to his palace and mansion in paradise and look at his family, he would say to them, 'you have increased in beauty' and his family will say the same thing back to him.

These people will be in the increase even in terms of the Beautific vision of Allah. When these slaves are given the Beautific vision of Allah and they are shown the Beautific vision again, there is only an increase to what there is no end for all of eternity. The manifestation of Allah's love for His slave is that when Allah loves a slave, He makes the angels of the highest assembly in heaven, the Divine Court; worship Allah through the love of this slave. By loving this slave for the sake of Allah, which is an act of worship, Allah makes these servants in the angelic assembly worship Allah. So He (SWT) Says to Sayidina Jibril AS who is the head of the angelic assembly 'O Jibril I love this servant so tell the inhabitants of the heavens to love him.' Sayidina Jibril loves this servant for the sake of Allah, which is an act of worship, and then he turns to the other angels and tells them that Allah loves this servant so love him. Therefore, this servant who walks upon the earth with all his human fallibilities is beloved in heaven, in the Highest Asssembly of Allah Ta'ala.

When this beloved servant who is loved by the angels due to Allah's love for him enters the grave and into the world of the barzakh, because the angels know that he is one of the beloved of ALLAH Ta'ala, they stand awe struck before the presence of this servant of Allah like attendants would stand before a King. They stand in awe of this servant because they know the place he has with Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala. He is one of the beloved of Allah.

When this servant walks across the fire of hell, it says to him, 'Walk O believer, for your light has burnt me.' Although the fire of hell affects things, this servant of Allah is not affected by it due to Allah's love for him, but rather he affects the fire of hell and Allah Ta'ala Says, 'My Mercy precedes My Wrath.' It is only because of Allah's Mercy for this servant that Allah loved him. The one who loves for the sake of Allah, someone loved by Allah could not stay in hell forever because a man is with whomever he loves. One of the effects of Divine Love on the servant is that these servants can even intercede for people that they love. A shaheed can intercede for those he loves and 70 people of his family, a matyr for the sake of Allah.

To really love someone, one loves everything attached to that person that one loves. He loves their children, he loves their family, and loves the house they lived in. He even loves to see an object that they wore. If this is the love that a creation has for another creation, what about the love that The Creator has for His Creation. And what is it that Allah will not give to someone He (SWT) loves.

Allah Ta'ala Says in a Hadith Qudsi,

'I am a Lord, if I am obeyed, I bless, and if I bless, I bless the person and everything attached to Him and my blessing knows no end.'

Ibn Abbas (RA) said when he was commenting on the ayat in Suratul Kahf about the two orphan children who had a treasure buried under the ground... When Sayidina Khidr rebuilt the wall, he said, 'their father was righteous.'

Sayidina ibn Abbas (RA) said that this father was the seventh generation forefather from their mother's side. Because he was a righteous man and Allah Ta'ala loved him, look how far it got. It went to the children.

Sayidina Muhammad SAW said about Uwais Al Qarni that he alone would be given intercession for people as numerous as the tribe of Rabi' in Arabia and Mudhar. These are the two of the big tribes of Arabia. So The Prophet SAW said that Uwais Qarni alone would intercede for people in that number. This is Uwais Qarni who hadn't even seen the Prophet (peace be upon him), so what do you think of the companions of the Prophet SAW who actually saw him? And what do you think of the elect of the companions of the Prophet SAW and the ten who were promised the Garden and the people closest to the Prophet of Allah (SAW).

There was a story told in Egypt of a man that died and people kept seeing him in their dreams in a state of torment in his grave. After days of seeing him in this state, someone saw him in a dream in which he was no longer in torment. He asked him what had happened. The man replied that it was the time of asr and that his grave came under the shadow of the Dome of Imam Shafi's Tomb. 'The moment the shadow of Imam Shafi's Maqaam fell upon my grave, the punishment was lifted'.

Sayidina Abu Bakr Sidiq was walking through a cemetery and one of his hairs fell on the ground of the cemetery. Due to this hair of his, the punishment was lifted from the whole cemetery. Thus, this is the effect of Allah's love for His servant and the way it affects everything else around him. If Allah loves a servant, He even loves things that come from this servant. For the sake of that love, Allah gives to others.

There was a story told about a person who lived during the time of sayidina Abdul Qadir Jelani. This man was heard screaming after he had been entered into his grave. People heard him screaming from the torment of his grave and they could hear him from a distance. The companions of Abdul Qadir Jelani told him about this so he went to this grave. They asked him if he could intercede for him so that Allah lifts this punishment from him. Abdul Qadir Jelani asked them, 'was he one of our companions?', they said no. 'did any of you see him in one of our lessons?' they said no. 'has he ever entered into one of our masjids in order to hear one of our sermons or to pray with us?', they said no. One of them said, 'have we ever seen him?' no. 'has he ever seen us?', no. One of them said, 'but sheikh, I once saw him walking on the road after you and your comapions had just dispersed and he saw your tracks.

So Abdul Qadir Jelani turned to Allah and said, 'O Allah, this man is a man who saw the tracks of our dust after we had dispersed. If you have love for us Allah, we ask you by this love to lift the punishment and torment for this slave.' At that moment, the screaming stopped.

There was a story about a man who was a wrong doer from Bani Israel. One day, on one of his journeys, he chanced upon an abid, a worshipper who was in the dessert. He saw that this worshipper was lying on his side on the ground. So, he looked at him and realised that this man was lying on his side because he was parched, so he thought to himself, 'what do I do?'. 'do I give him water and take a chance? If I am out in the dessert and I am out of water I could die. Do I leave him to his fate?' He thought that if he left this man to his fate Allah will never forgive him because he was a sinner. He came to the man and gave him some of his water thus he preferred him to himself. The man drank the water and straight away his vitality retuned so he sat up. They departed.

On the Day of Judgement, that sinful one will come and the angels of torment will grab him in order to plunge him into hell. As they are dragging him towards hell, he will see the worshipper and he will say to him, 'do you not remember me? I was that man who gave you water that day you were parched in the dessert and about to die.'

The worshipper will turn to Allah Ta'ala and say 'O Allah, this man preferred me to himself so let me intercede for him'. Allah Ta'ala will Say to him, intercede for him so when he intercedes, Allah will Say to him, 'Take him by the hand and take him into the garden with you.' So, this is the effect of Allah's love on one of His servants for someone who did something good for him once in his lifetime.

Habib Umar ibn Hafidh

Habib Umar bin Hafiz advice

The Advice of Al-Habib ‘Umar bin Hafiz

Advice recorded on videotape, in Tarim, by Br. Hasan Sidky,
translation prepared by Br. Khalîl Abû Asmâ, August 2000

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise belongs to Allah, Lord of the sentient beings, and may peace and blessings be upon His Messenger and upon his family and companions.

We request from your dignified person, may Allah be pleased with you, a comprehensive word and a general advice for the inhabitants of America, especially those that are living in the Washington D.C. area, and our families and friends. (We also would like that you) specifically address how they should interact with the different groups from amongst the Muslims, as well as how they can realize taqwâ (God-Conciousness) within themselves. May Allah grant you a goodly reward.

The Sheikh, Al-Habîb ‘Umar bin Muhammad bin Sâlim bin Hafîz, may Allah preserve him, responded:

May Allah bless in us, and in you, and in them, with the greatest of blessings. And may He make us firm upon the truth, and right guidance, in whatever we say, do, and believe. For verily He is the Most Generous of the generous and the Most Merciful of the merciful.

Our counsel and our advice to these, our brothers, the ones whom the rope of “Lâ ilâha illah Allah” (There is no god but Allah) has brought together and the ring of connection has enveloped, by the Sacred Law of Allah, and the revelation of Allah and the Religion of Truth and Right Guidance; the way that Allah raised up His beloved and Chosen One, Muhammad with (peace and blessings be upon him and his family and companions). So upon all of these (my brothers): “As-Salamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh.” We ask the Truth (Allah), may He be glorified and exalted, to fortify their hearts and to make us and them from the people of Iman (Faith) and the people of certainty (yaqîn).

Certainty (yaqîn) is an expression which means the strength of Iman, its firmness and deep rootedness in the heart, so much so that it becomes as if a lofty mountain. Certainty is the noblest thing that has been sent down from the heavens to the earth.

So our advice to them is to have concern for the enhancement and beautification of their certainty. Our master, the Imam, Abdullah bin ‘Alawi Al-Haddad said, “You must strengthen and beautify your certainty. For verily, when it is perfected the unseen will become seen without any possibility of rejection.” In other words, the unseen becomes as if it is the seen. This is the special feature and characteristic of the one who is ennobled by a connection to the message that Allah has commissioned their Prophet Muhammad, the Seal of the Prophets and Messengers, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, and upon them (the Messengers), and each and every of their families and all of their companions and followers in righteousness until the last day. And upon us (peace) with them and in them. Verily He is the Most Generous of the generous and the Most Merciful of the merciful.

This certainty (yaqîn) is strengthened and beautified by certain causes:

  • From the greatest of these causes is perfecting ones attentiveness and careful listening to the “signs” of Allah (the Qur’ân) and the narrations of His Messenger, His Chosen One, with humility, submissiveness, exaltation and reverence.
  • Then, reflecting on and looking at the realms of the heavens and the earth and what is contained in them of indicators towards the immensity of the Maker and His awesomeness, majesty, knowledge and encompassment.
  • Then, reflecting deeply about the journeying to Him, the affairs of the Hereafter, the affairs of the life in the barzakh, the affairs of the grave and what happens to its people, and the affairs of the gathering and resurrection.
  • And pondering on the stories of the prophets and messengers, may Allah bless them and grant them peace.
  • And reflecting upon the various (and numerous) blessings that He has bestowed upon us. This should be repeated over and over again in the mind until a light flashes in the heart that causes shyness in front of this Bestower who has bestowed the greatest of blessings, in spite of our boldness in front of Him.
  • And reflecting on the fact that we have not upheld the right of His Lordship, while at the same time we have laid ourselves open to His wrath by preferring our desires and lusts in many of our situations and conditions. This will help us to develop brokenness in front of Allah, blessed and exalted is He, and for His sake.
  • Then, persevering in the daily Salâh, with the congregation, as well as the supererogatory prayers and Sunnah prayers, especially the Sunnah prayers that are performed before, and or, after every Salâh:
  • Two rak’ahs before the Subh prayer
  • Two or four rak’ahs before and after the Dhuhr prayer (in the hadith it says, “Whoever is consistent in performing four rak’ahs before Dhuhr and four after it, Allah will make his hair and his skin forbidden (haram) for the fire of Hell.”)
  • Four before the ‘Asr prayer (in the hadith it says, “May Allah have mercy on the person who prays four rak’ahs before ‘Asr.”)
  • Two rak’ahs after the Maghrib prayer
  • Two rak’ahs before and after the ‘Ishâ prayer
  • Then the Witr prayer, the least of which is three rak’ahs
  • Also, the Duhâ prayer (which is in the morning, after the sun has risen).
  • All of these prayers should be observed with the utmost concentration and humility.
  • Everyone should have a portion of Qur’ân that they recite everyday, as well as a portion of Dhikr, which has been narrated to us from the Sunnah, in the morning and the evening. And from amongst what has been abridged in that regard is Al-Wird Al-Latîf, by Imâm Al-Haddâd. This is a collection of great prophetic traditions and devotions.
  • Also, reading the books of the righteous (scholars and friends of Allah).
  • (We add to) what we have mentioned, sitting with those whom one’s faith is increased by sitting with them, from amongst those who are characterized by praiseworthy qualities.
    These are the causes of certainty (yaqîn).
    Among the best of the books of the righteous, that are widespread in the Muhammadan nation, are the books of the Imâm Muhammad bin Muhammad bin Muhammad bin Ahmad Al-Ghazzali, Imâm ‘Abdul-Wahhâb Ash-Sha’rânî, Imâm ‘Abdullah bin ‘Alawî Al-Haddâd and others from amongst the righteous. Their books have a great effect in procuring certainty and in enlightening and purifying the heart.

Indeed, of the most necessary and emphasized things, which these our brothers should know concerning the greatness of their Dîn, is the acceptance of its people from amongst all those who have born witness that “Lâ ilâha illa Allah, Wa anna Muhammadan Rasulullah”, “None has the right to be worshipped but Allah and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah”. For it may be that some groups may differ with them in many opinions, yet they shouldn’t make from these differences any type of rancor, hatred, intolerance, or enmity. This is not permissible in the Sacred Law.

Whosoever carries on these intolerant campaigns of hatred then he has indeed answered the call of passion and lustful desire, the call of zealous partisanship and the preference of one’s own opinion. So it is upon us to revere the sacrosanctity of this immensely blessed statement of “Lâ ilâha illah Allah, Muhammadun Rasulullah”. For if the seven heavens and the seven earths were to be placed in one side of a scale and this statement were to be placed in the other side of the scale, “Lâ ilâha illah Allah” would have outweighed it! So we should revere this statement in anyone who believes in it. Furthermore, we should not take them as enemies. Allah, may He be exalted, said, “Verily, the Believers are nothing but brothers” (Qur’an).

Then, when we have become certain about the guidance, the truth and the right way, especially with what the heart is at rest, along with being in touch and connected with Sheikhs that are firmly established in knowledge and certainty, we should call to this way and clarify it to others with kindness and gentleness. So whosoever accepts that from us, then we praise Allah for that and we make supplication (dua’) for that person and cooperate with him. And whosoever doesn’t accept that from us, we make dua’ for him, and we are not pleased to open the doors of argumentation that are not beneficial, neither the doors of enmity, quarreling or dissension. Our Lord has said to us, guiding, teaching and directing us to the right path, “And sow not dissension amongst yourselves, for you will fail and the wind that blows you along will desist. And have patience, verily, Allah is with those that are patient.”

So it is upon every true person from amongst our brethren, every one of them that is focused on Allah, to be certain and know for sure that the final end and the ultimate victory is for the people of purity, loyalty, cleanliness of heart and sincerity to Allah; those who are connected and in touch with those who are close to Allah (the Awliyâ’). The goodly outcome will be for them. Therefore, whatever they see of angry arguments and challenges should not frighten them. Rather, they should avoid all of that and seek out the realization of sincerity with Allah, and being colored with noble prophetic characteristics in their interaction with their brethren in a beautiful way, even if they, in turn, are rude and disrespectful.

They should also overlook their mistakes and their spreading of their faults. For indeed, the existence of these groups, with regards to the one who embodies the characteristics of righteousness, is a great blessing upon him from Allah. That is so because these characteristics raise him and make him an inheritor of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. For if it wasn’t for the existence of these groups he would not have had the opportunity to show righteousness to those who are rude to him, nor to forgive those who have wronged him.

If the non-Muslims were the only ones who were around, then he wouldn’t have found the opportunity to show goodness towards the Muslims, while they are wronging him, nor would he have found the reward for enduring with the people of the Dîn. So, by the existence of these dissenting factions, he can develop beautiful characteristics and amazing qualities. This, in itself, should be considered as a great blessing upon him from Allah, exalted is He.

He should accept this training from Allah. The acceptance of this training is to have kind interaction with those individuals and having patience with what comes from them. So it is not acceptable, in the eyes of such a person, to call someone (from amongst the Muslims) a “kâfir” or a “mushrik” or an “innovator” or a “deviant”. At the same time, he manifests his goodly characteristics and he busies himself with those who want to benefit and take heed, all the while avoiding those who oppose him and want to block his way. But he does not react to them with unacceptable deeds, rather, he leaves them so that they come back to the right way or, at least, the Truth (Allah, exalted is He,) will push them away, as well as their evil, with whatever He wills. However, he should not hold anything inside of him except a good opinion (concerning them).

When Allah sees him like this, He will choose him. And if Allah chooses him, He will make him of those upon whose hands this Deen will be renewed in this century that we live in (the 15th Islamic Century). Hence, it is obligatory upon every believer to become overflowed with certainty that Allah will indeed renew His Deen in this century, as He renewed it in the centuries of old, and even greater than that. This is due to the fact that more weakness, division, separation, disruption and harm has occurred in this our century, than has ever happened in previous generations. So it is inevitable that this renewal will be more intense and much stronger, with a special attention from Allah, than what occurred in previous generations. All this in order that the promise of Allah to His Prophet may be realized, may Allah bless him, his family and his companions, and may He grant them peace.

So it is upon every single person to seek his lofty rank within this lordly gift by holding firm to sincerity, truthfulness, striving in the spread of Da’wah and benefiting those around one with whatever is possible. One should also remain in touch and tied to the people of righteousness (amongst the scholars and friends of Allah) and standing firm upon that until the Ultimate Reality (Allah), exalted is He, chooses him and makes him of those who will renew for this nation the affair of their Deen. He will also make them of a force that our Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said concerning: “The son of Mary will find a group of people in my nation like his disciples.” In other words, like the disciples that helped our master ‘Isâ (Jesus, peace be upon him). He will find them in this nation when he comes down from the sky to the Earth. He will rule according to the Sacred Law of the Prophet Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and will take guidance from his way and be lead by his example, just as he was lead by him on the occasion of the Night Journey and the Ascension at Bait Al-Maqdis (in Jerusalem).

He, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “How will you be when ‘Isâ, the son of Mary, will descend among you as a just ruler and your Imam is from amongst you?” In other words, you will have a great Imam amongst you. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, refers to him here and he praises him. That Imam is the great awaited Imam, the “Mahdi”.

So it is upon our brethren to seek nearness to Allah so that He may choose them. They should not trade this for argumentation with people and excessively discussing: “Who is the Mahdi? When will the Mahdi come? How is the Mahdi?” He will come in his appointed time, as Allah wills. And when he does come he will not be concerned with whether or not you can talk a lot, rather, he will be concerned if you can be upright a lot, upon the right way, and that you have been preparing completely, with the purification of your self, the cleansing of your heart and the strengthening of your faith. It is strong faith that he wants from you, not a lot of talk. The Mahdi is not in need of a lot of talk from us, nor is anyone else for that matter. Rather, he needs from us to have pure hearts, sincere intentions and true striving in the path of Allah, blessed and exalted is He. This striving should be against our lower selves, so that we go against our passions, give good counsel to our brethren, serve the Sacred Law of our Lord (Allah) and benefit the Muslims, and the people of the Deen, by means of it.

This is our advice to them. So everyone that hears it must reap its benefit in this life and the next. And whoever turns away, in such case they are Your slaves (O Allah). “If You punish them, verily, they are Your slaves. And if You have mercy on them, then indeed, You are the Most Strong, the Wise” (Qur’ân). (And as the Prophet Ibrâhîm said,) “And whosoever follows me, then verily he is from me. And whosoever disobeys me, then indeed, You are the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful” (Qur’ân).

O Allah, forgive us and have mercy on us; look upon us and aid us; take care of us and give us success; make us firm and make us of the accepted, amongst those whom you have chosen for this immense good and for this lofty and great goal. And make us of the rightly guided and successful guides towards every good, protected from every evil, O Lord! By the rank of Your Prophet Muhammad, the Chosen One, through the secret of the Fâtihah…unto the presence of the Prophet…

Ratib Haddad

Ratib Haddad is a wird(invocation) was composed by Al Imam Abdullah Al Haddad, a great Sufi Saint from Yemen. Basicly, this is a composition of Prophet Muhammad's invocations. For me, Ratib Haddad is special invocation. I, insya Allah, always recite it after Isya or Magrib Prayer. I found it very useful, for protection, cure of the heart,etc and insya Allah, always works well in the urgent time. You should pray and ask Allah, whatever your ask, after you recite this invocation.

Habib Umar bin Hafiz spoke on the power of Ratib.
He said,
One day, there was a man sitting in the mosque with Imam Abdullah Alhadad. He read the ratib Alhadad and began wondering to himself , “ I read the ratib daily but what do I get ? “..Soon after he fell asleep in the mosque and he dreamt that he died.
Malaikat Mungkar and Nangkir came to him fiercely and he was so nervous. Then he saw Imam Abdullah Alhadad coming to him and telling Malaikat Mungkar and Nangkir ” Leave this man alone, he is one of my men “. And the malaikat left him alone.
When the man woke up, the jemaah had finished with the ratib and were queing up to salam Imam Abdullah Alhadad.
When it was the man’s turn, Imam Abdullah Alhadad gripped his hands and said ” What you saw in the dream was true. It was me in your dreams. It’s not syaitan “….
So Habib Umar said that reading the Ratib brings alot of blessings in our lives and sometimes we don’t see it but it will one day help us. That’s the Power of ratib.

“The Opening” Al-Fātiha

In the Name of Allāh, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
All praise be to Allāh, Lord of the worlds.
The Beneficent, the Merciful.
Owner of the Day of Judgment.
You only do we worship,
and You only do we beg for help.
Guide us on the straight path.
The path of those whom You have favoured;
not (the path) of those who earn Your anger
nor of those who go astray. (1:1-7)

Allāh! None is worthy of worship but He,
The Ever-Living,
The Self-Subsisting by Whom all subsist;
Slumber overtakes Him not, nor sleep;
to Him belongs whatever is in the heavens
and whatever is in the earth;
who is he that can intercede with Him
except by His permission?
He knows what is before them
and what is behind them,
and they encompass nothing
of His knowledge, except what He wills;
His Seat extends over the heavens and the earth,
and He is never weary of preserving them both;
and He is the Most High, the Supreme. (2:255)

Allāh does not place on any soul a burden
but to the extent of its capacity;
for it is (the benefit of) what it has earned,
and against it (the evil of) what it has wrought:
Our Lord! Do not punish us
if we forget or make a mistake,
Our Lord! Do not lay on us such a burden
as You did lay
on those before us;
Our Lord! Do not impose upon us
that which we do not have the strength to bear;
and pardon us and grant us forgiveness
and have mercy on us,
You are our Protector,
so help us against the unbelieving people.

Bismillah

Bismillahirahmanirrahim = In the name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful.

The word Bismillah is so blessed a treasure that by binding you to the infinite power and mercy of the Omnipotent and Merciful One, it transforms your boundless weakness and poverty into the most heeded of intercessors at His Exalted Court. The one who acts uttering the word Bismillah is like one who enrolls in an army and then acts in the name of the state, fearing no one, doing all things in the name of the law and the state, and persisting against all odds.

We said at the beginning that all beings recite Bismillah through their very mode of existence. How is this?

Consider, for example, a man who, arriving alone, compels the entire population of a city to gather in a certain place and labor on retrain tasks. You may be certain that he is not acting on his account or with his own strength. Rather he is a soldier, acting in the name of the state, and relying on the strength of a king. So too all things are acting in the name of God Almighty. Seeds and grains, no bigger than atoms, bear huge trees on their heads, raise weights as heavy as mountains. Each tree says "Bismillah," and filling its hands with fruits from the Treasure of Mercy, offers them to us on a tray. Each garden also says "`Bismillah. " It is a cauldron from the kitchen of Divine power, in which are cooked countless different varieties of delicious food. All blessed animals sue as cows, camels, sheep and goats, also say "Bismillah. " They are like a spring from which gushes forth the milk of the effusion of God's mercy. They offer to us, in the name of God the Provider, the most delicate, pure and life-giving sustenance. Every plant and every grass with its roots and tendrils soft as silk also says "Bismillah. " It penetrates and passes through hard stones and earth; saying "In the name of God, in the name of the Compassionate One," it subjugates all things to itself. The spreading of a tree's branches in the sky, the unhindered diffusion of its roots in the midst of the hard stones and earth, its spontaneous generation beneath the earth, its delicate green leaves remaining moist for months despite intense heat-all this is like a heavy blow struck against the materialist. It jabs a finger into his blinded eye and says:

'That hardness and heat in whose power you place so much: trust is also obliged to act in accordance with Divine command; the silken tendrils of the plant, each like the Staff of Moses, upon whom be peace, obey the command of:

And We said, 'O Moses, strike the rock with your staff,''

and cleave through the rock."

Its paper-thin, delicate leaves, each like one of the limbs of Abraham, upon whom be peace, recite the verse:

O fire, be coolness and peace,

in defiance of the flame-splitting heat.

Since, then, all things are inwardly saying Bismillah, and delivering God's bounties to us in God's name, we too should say "Bismillah, " and give and take all things in God's name. We should accept nothing from those heedless men who do not give in God's name.
